Default Pakistan offers reward for capture of Baitullah Mehsud

Pakistan's air force bombed suspected insurgent positions in its troubled northwest yesterday, as the government intensified its fight against the Taliban and offered a reward for information leading to the capture of the militant leader in the country, Baitullah Mehsud

Eleven insurgents were killed on Sunday, intelligence officials claimed, as the army began a fresh offensive aimed at eliminating the Taliban chieftain.
Jet fighters struck the village of Kani Guram leaving eight terrorists dead, while helicopter gunships hit positions in Shah Alam and Raghhzai, killing three more fighters, the officials said.

Clashes between the army and Mehsud have increased in recent days and the government yesterday offered a reward of 50 million rupees (£373,000) for information leading to the Pakistani Taliban leader's capture or death.
Mehsud has been blamed for a string of suicide attacks across the country that have killed more than 100 people in the past month.
In North Waziristan, insurgents ambushed an army convoy yesterday, killing six soldiers, officials said.
Insurgents also killed one government soldier in twin attacks on a pair of army outposts near Wana in South Waziristan shortly after morning prayers, the army said.
The US State Department has already authorised a reward of up to £3 million for the Taliban leader.
The government's campaign against the Taliban is seen as a test of its determination to confront an insurgency that has grown in recent years after earlier military operations failed to finish the job, and peace deals with the Taliban collapsed.
