Baroness Thatcher to be discharged from hospital

Baroness Thatcher is to be discharged from hospital on Monday, The Daily Telegraph can disclose.

The former Prime Minister has been given the all clear by doctors at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
Lady Thatcher had a heavy fall at her London home more than two weeks ago and fractured her upper shoulder. After the break failed to heal as well as doctors had hoped, she underwent an operation to put in a pin into the shoulder.

Despite the success of the operation doctors refused to allow her to go home prompting fears over the health of the former Prime Minister, who is 83. Lady Thatcher has been increasingly frail in recent years and, after a series of minor strokes, has given up speaking in public.
But, despite being in hospital for 17 days, her formidable spirit has not been dimmed and she has been pressuring the doctors every day to be allowed to go home. Lady Thatcher has been up and out of bed almost since the first day she was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
A spokesman for Lady Thatcher said: “The doctors are very happy with Lady Thatcher’s progress since the operation. They kept her in as a precaution to ensure the fracture healed properly and that there were no complications,. She is in good form, raring to go, and keen to go home. She has kept up with all the news since she has been in hospital and has been overwhelmed by the cards, flowers and messages of goodwill.”
