Special about kashmir is that one who controls kashmir gets the automatic control of all the rivers which originate from kashmir/himalayas. And rivers play a very important role in Indian subcontinent. We have discussed this in other thread, everything here depends upon monsoon and rrivers. Besides india is eying the mega project of joining all the rivers in india. If pakistan misbehaves, india can divert all the water towards india turning pakistan into a desert.
Second, one who control kashmir has a strategic edge over other from military view point in any war. History of 3 wars has proved this. India won all 3 times.
I will tell you one thing honestly, neither india nor pakistan cares for kashmiris. Both of them want is all kashmir. And kashmiris have allways been fools hopping here and there, they dont have any specific stand on this issue.
But india have moral grounds to have control of kashmir because during partition the hindu king of kashmir wanted to be with india and pakistan agreed. And in return india gave some part of punjab although it was supposed to be of india. And then LOC (Line of control) were finaised. But then in late 60's pakistan suddenly learnt they should now have kashmir, and started the wars with india, which are still ON. I just say, guys, whatever done is done, respect the LOC. And india is not a rogue country that will take inappropriate use of control of kashmir to hurt pakistan. But pakistan is never rest assured.
